CTS Publishes New Guidelines on Asthma
The Canadian Thoracic Society (CTS) Asthma Clinical Assembly is proud to announce an update to the "Canadian Thoracic Society Asthma Management Continuum – 2010 Consensus Summary for children six years of age and over, and adults". The update provides evidence-based recommendations for the diagnosis and treatment of asthma in preschoolers (age 0-5 years), children (age 6-11 years) and adults (≥12 years), and addresses the following key clinical issues:
- the role of non-invasive measurements of airway inflammation for the adjustment of anti-inflammatory therapy;
- the initiation of adjunct therapy to inhaled corticosteroids for uncontrolled asthma; and
- the escalation of controller medication for acute loss of asthma control as part of a self-management action plan.
